a fresh coat of paint for a horrible truth
treated like dogs stuck in a no kill shelter
separate mothers and fathers from youth
door to door hunting like the gestapo
ratting out neighbors like judas to god
for a civil offense that's on par with jay walking
the employers are the ones breaking the law

sold a lie an invisible evil
crosses the threshold every day
misinformed and enraged at these people
blindly calling out "make them all pay"
so you round up a few thousand families
sigh in relief as they rot in a cage
detention center is a nice way to put it

working jobs that you claim you're too good for
pay into services they'll never get
as they strengthen the nation and increase the workforce
commit fewer crimes than our own residents
studies have shown if instead granted visas
to live and to work freely, everyone wins
just admit it was never about public safety
your problem is just with their color of skin

as you lay in your warm bed at night
soft feather pillow, blanket wrapped tight
a child sleeps on a cold concrete floor
surrounded by strangers and begging for warmth
this is what you tacitly endorse
